Artificially applied late-terminal drought stress in the field differentially affects Ramularia leaf spot disease in winter barley

چکیده

Abstract Ramularia leaf spot disease (RLS) is one of the most dominating fungal diseases in barley. The typically appears late season after flowering and results a rapid loss photosynthetic area. A recent decline fungicide efficacy lack RLS-resistant cultivars hamper effective control. Global warming will provoke increasing droughts which influence host plant physiology probably affect outbreak severity RLS. Relatively little known about genetic resistance to RLS winter barley various weather conditions climate change on pathogenesis. Hence, we evaluated 15 genotypes under persistent late-terminal drought stress or controlled irrigation, respectively, field rainout shelter. Over three consecutive years, observed reproducible differences quantitative used variable suppression drought. Our support function barley, but also reveal strong year effects even semi-controlled shelter conditions. Data may be relevant for genotype selection breeding programmes farmers frame integrated management changing climate. Graphical abstract

The role of reactive oxygen in the development of Ramularia leaf spot disease in barley seedlings

Background and Aims Ramularia collo-cygni is an ascomycete fungus that colonizes barley primarily as a benign endophyte, although this interaction can become pathogenic, causing the disease Ramularia leaf spot (RLS). Factors, particularly reactive oxygen species, that resulted in the transition of the fungus from endophyte to necrotrophic parasite and the development of disease symptoms were in...

Contribution of the drought tolerance-related Stress-responsive NAC1 transcription factor to resistance of barley to Ramularia leaf spot

NAC proteins are plant transcription factors that are involved in tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, as well as in many developmental processes. Stress-responsive NAC1 (SNAC1) transcription factor is involved in drought tolerance in barley and rice, but has not been shown previously to have a role in disease resistance. Transgenic over-expression of HvSNAC1 in barley cv. Golden Promise r...

Activities of fructan- metabolizing enzymes in barley stems subjected to terminal drought stress

Barley crop grown in semiarid areas may experience water deficit especially during grain filling that makes them more dependent on stem water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC). Fructans are the most important reserved carbohydrates. A pot experiment was undertaken at Shahid Chamran university in the duration of 2010-2011 growing seasons to investigate the accumulation and loss of WSC and the activity...

changes in cuticular transpiration, leaf wax and leaf wax crystals of barley genotypes in response to terminal drought stress

in order to evaluate the effect of terminal water deficit stress on leaf traits and their relations to grain yield in different barley genotypes (‘yousof’, ‘fajr30’, ‘nosrat’, ‘pbyt-46’, ‘pbyt-97’ and ‘morocco’), two separated experiments were conducted in stress (water withholding from anthesis towards the end of growing season), and non stress (normal irrigation) conditions based on rcbd with...
